JANUARY 2004

(1 John 3:16-18,NKJV):  By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us.  And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.  But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?
My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
This is the scripture that compels us.

Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ,

Blessed
What a blessing was Doug Oyen Of Global Relief Resources (GRR) and the team that came with him on December 2. As Love Of Vietnam Expressed (LOVE) and Street Children Program of Danang (SCP) teamed with GRR, over 600 poor were treated at the garbage dump and around 200 more received dental treatment. GRR brought 10 volunteers who paid their own way to come and be a blessing here.

Below are a few photos of their visit.

1. Above are most of the people from LOVE, GRR, and SCP. Three of Doug's team left earlier. Here we say good- bye as the GRR team departs Danang to return to U.S.
2. Dinner at Family 4 and gifts for the children. Each day we ate at a different family, giving gifts to all 5.
3. OUCH! Vietnamese doctors give tetanus shots, provided by GGR, to over 300 children and adults

Dental

Dental care included filling and pulling teeth for both the young, the old, and all in-between; then there was dental care education, Fluoride treatment, tooth brushes, tooth paste and dental floss for the children.

Treating with medicine

Of the serious cases: One had a stomach tumor; one child has an enlarged heart;and a diabetic who will die without insulin. Love is taking care of these serious problems because of generous financial help from the medical team.

Open Doors
Not long after Tony left in November, we had an opportunity to help in a medical mission to Tien Phuoc District of Quang Nam. There was a team of 10 doctors and 20 nurses from Danang Hospitals. We left Danang at 7 A.M. and returned to Danang at 9 P.M. Over 800 children were treated at 3 locations.
Tien Phuoc is a very poor district in the western part of Quang Nam. It is mountainous and has over 700 handicapped children (many of these are caused by "Agent Orange" which their parents or grandparents were exposed to during the war). See the photos below.

Above left is a child born with brain damage.Center another handicapped child and to the right is one with a massive hernia or tumor in the abdomen. There are over 700 handicapped children in Tien Phuoc alone, many (the government said) are 2nd and 3rd generation children effected by agent orange used by the Americans during the war.

Above are two children who have cancer in the eye. These are only a few of the over 800 children that were treated and provided medicine, vitamins, food and milk. Medicine was provided by "AmeriCares".

Thanks to all who came with Global Relief Resources, This I Know Family Ministry, and to each of our supporters and prayer partners. Thank you for a wonderful December and for a successful 2003.

Please pray for our work in 2004. There is so much more we need to do.

Please include a GIFT and Blessing to a poor family or person this month

This I Know Family Ministry brings Christmas to Danang's Poor

To the right at the vocational center are over 250 of the more than 400 children we brought Christmas gifts for.

Above is the Scharp family with Mr. Ran, director of SCP, who is recovering from a massive aneurysm that nearly cost him his life. No one thought he would live, but all were encouraged when God spoke through me that He had more work for Mr.Ran and he would not die, but live. Doctors gave him 2% chance, but God gave him 100%
Below, Santa and his helpers give out gifts. A number of children sang Christmas songs and wrote or sang songs about what Christmas means to them. Below, Van Anh, a new Christian from family 2, sings.

We visited children in Ngu Hanh Son and Khanh Son Garbage dump, both in Danang

The girls at Ruth's house.

Ruth's House, houses 9 girls, but 1 girl finished school and is moving to a new job in HCMC and another has taken a job in Nha Trang. Pray for God's leading in the two new girls that will move in. We are thankful for the quality of girls that God has brought us.

Blessings, Reggie, Chi, and Duc
