FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Who is Love Of Vietnam Expressed, Inc.?

We are a registered non-profit, tax-exempt organization in the U.S. and a NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) in Viet Nam, and are seeking to improve the lives of the poorest children and families in Da Nang, Quang Nam, and surrounding areas. All of our directors and board members are volunteers, and we employ several Vietnamese nationals in Da Nang.

  2. Where is the work located?

We are based in Da Nang, Viet Nam, the 4th largest city in Viet Nam with over 800,000 inhabitants, located in central Viet Nam on the coast of the South China Sea.

A map of our area can be seen here.

  3. What is the mission's purpose?

We address the following needs:  Providing better opportunities to poor families to complete their children’s education by providing school fees, extra classes to enrich their studies, and extra help when needed. Also by providing better health and dental care and better nutrition. We serve by offering hope to those without hope, and encouragement to those who have given up.

Mission Statement:  L.O.V.E. is a Christian relief organization that provides spiritual, physical and emotional support to Central Vietnam’s impoverished children, orphans, at-risk and special-needs children.

  4. How are donations used?

See our Sponsorship page to see how sponsorship donations are used. See our Budget page to see how all monies are used.

  5. Who can assume a sponsorship?

Any individual or group (such as a Sunday School class, man’s, woman’s or youth group) can assume a sponsorship of a child, student, family, or student home.  We only ask that you be committed and faithful.  Click here for more information on sponsorships.

  6. Are there other ways to help besides a sponsorship?

Any donation helps provide scholarships to poor children, and medical or dental assistance to those who aren't sponsored.  There is also the option of choosing a child to provide a scholarship to attend school.  For more on our other programs, click here.

  7. Who decides which children and families are served?

Our Director and assistants visit each family personally and determine their needs. Most families are referred to us by churches, government, and other organizations.

  8. Is there any accountability for the recipient families?

Yes, they are monitored regularly - most on a monthly basis - for their general health and well-being.  Any children receiving sponsorships or scholarships must make a reasonable effort to attend and achieve in school.  Families who are able to rise out of poverty are removed from the program to make room for the more needy.  Children who do not make a reasonable effort to attend and perform well in school, lose their scholarships.

  9. Is a sponsorship considered a legal obligation?

No, you may cancel at any time.  We just ask that you give us as much notice as possible so we can find another to help.

10. How long is a sponsorship commitment?

You may select the amount of time you wish to sponsor, but we greatly encourage each sponsorship to last until the child finishes his/her formal education.

11. How do I make donations?

You can pay by check or online.  You can even schedule automatic monthly donations.  We highly recommend that for regularly scheduled payments, such as sponsorships, you sign up for auto-pay, or use your banking institution's bill pay program. Click here for all payment options.

12. May I have contact with a sponsored child?

Yes!  We strongly encourage correspondence with sponsored children.  You may email or mail your letters to us, and we will translate and deliver, and vice versa.

13. What holidays are celebrated in Viet Nam?

Birthdays, the annual Tet celebration and the Mid-Autumn Festival are the big ones.  Many also celebrate Christmas.

14. Can I send presents for the children?

Yes. However, shipping/postage and customs to Viet Nam is high, and it is generally more cost effective to send us the money to purchase gifts locally.  You may choose what you'd like us to purchase, or let us choose based on our knowledge of the recipient.  You will receive photos of your gift(s) and the child/ren receiving it.

15. Is L.O.V.E. a Christian or secular organization?

L.O.V.E. is a Christian organization, but we serve needy people of all faiths. Click here for our statement of faith.

16. May I share my Christian faith with a sponsored child?

Absolutely...we encourage it.

17. Do multiple people sponsor the same child?

No, each child has one designated sponsor.

18. Can I visit L.O.V.E. in Viet Nam, including my sponsored child?

Yes, we love visitors!  Please email us for more information and assistance in planning your trip.

19. What methods of correspondence does L.O.V.E. employ?

L.O.V.E. attempts to use email for all correspondence, including donation receipts, our monthly newsletters, and correspondence with our children.  This saves us a great deal of funds that can be better applied elsewhere.  Please contact us to request other methods of communication/correspondence.

20.  What is L.O.V.E.'s privacy policy?

L.O.V.E. does not share payment information, banking information, emails, email addresses or other personal information or correspondence outside of the organizations of L.O.V.E. and G4Kids (our sister organization in Germany). Only information relating to the sponsorship of L.O.V.E.'s children through G4Kids is shared between these two organizations.  L.O.V.E. is committed to protecting the privacy of our sponsors and supporters.
