Love Of Vietnam Expressed

Helping the poor and needy

(1 John 3:16-18 NKJV)  By this, we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.  But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?  My little children let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

January 2011

All of us at LOVE hope each of you have had a very joyful Christmas and a happy New Year.

I began ministering to Asians in 1973 when 2 Chinese students were placed in my math class. Soon they accepted Christ and I began my association with a Chinese church in Virginia. Then, after completing my Masters Degree in Theology in 1981, I began ministering to many boat people from Vietnam, then Cambodians and Laotians. God blessed my work. Then in 1998, I made my first mission trip to Vietnam, went again in 1999, and moved to Vietnam in 2000. During the early years, the country was very poor and the poverty was visible everywhere you looked.

This will be my 13th  year serving in Vietnam. Today you will find the major cities very modern. As you ride down the streets you no longer see the poverty because their houses have given way to roads and new buildings and the poor were relocated to other areas, yet if you go to the back streets and allies, they are still there, and more poor than ever. A prospering middle class, mostly of young educated, and 2-digit inflation over the past 3 years means more poor children are forced to drop out of school and eat poorer diets.

Because of your love and support of many children, we see more and more graduating from high school and many going on to university, college or vocational school. But more than ever the children need your help. Many of you are giving support to 3, 4 or many more children. I would really encourage those of you who have only one child to take a step of faith in 2011 and reach out to one more this year.

Christmas Party for Children

Over 200 children, staff and volunteers attended our Christmas party on December 19. Near the end we were surprised by a visit by a group of 5 police. They missed my introduction of why we celebrate Christmas and my daughter’s (Hannah) singing Happy Birthday Jesus, but I am not sure they heard about it. Some days they visit our home. Things went well and now we have made a bridge between us and the police.

Sponsors Needed

Right now, there is a needy child living in poverty who is waiting for a caring person like you. We have many children who need sponsors.

To see these children or to fill out an application go to our web site by clicking child. Without your help, many of these will not finish school. For just $25 a month you can see that the child you choose will break the cycle of poverty by getting a good education, better food, clothing, and shelter. For more information about these children or an application form, you can also contact Reggie, who lives in Danang.

Please pray that we can find sponsors for all our children and put your prayers to work by sharing the need with your church, Sunday School Class, civic club, etc.

Share your love and faith

These children urgently need sponsors who will support a child for $25 a month or the whole family for $40 a month, and will pray for them, write and encourage them.

(Ezekiel 16:49 NKJV)  "Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food, and abundance of idleness; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

(Psa 41:1-3 NKJV)  Blessed is he who considers the poor; The LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. The LORD will preserve him and keep him alive, And he will be blessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies. The LORD will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed.

If you are interested in sponsoring a child, please check the information by clicking on  child or contact Reggie.

God bless you for your prayers and financial support for the children!
