Love Of Vietnam Expressed

Helping the poor and needy

(1 John 3:16-18 NKJV) By this, we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

Tet (Vietnam’s Lunar New Year), The Year of the Cat

The festival which best epitomizes Vietnam's cultural identity is Vietnamese New Year or Tet.

Because of the Lunar New Year, LOVE’s office is closed from January 28 to February 9. Because the distribution of monthly funds for most of the children falls during Tet, we chose to pay January and February stipends in January. We have also distributed Tet gifts from the sponsors to the children.

A rocky Vietnam economy makes Tet a less than boisterous event this year.

Tet, or Lunar New Year, marks the Year of the Cat in Vietnam. www.globalpost.com/dispatch/vietnam/110128/vietnam-lunar-new-year-tet-economy

Contrary to the headlines above, thanks to all the gifts and “Lucky Money” sent by most of the sponsors.  Along with receiving January and February funds before Tet, the children will enjoy their best Tet ever. Their families should not suffer the embarrassment of having relatives and friends visit and they are not able to provide traditional foods or luck money for the children.

For those of you who do not know, Tet is the time to help the poor (much like the West does at Christmas) and the tradition of giving a red envelope to children with money inside. The amount of money may vary from 1.000 vnd ($.05) to 50.000 vnd or more. The amount depends on the ability of the giver and by how close the recipients are to the givers.

Sponsors Needed

Right now, there is a needy child living in poverty who is waiting for a caring person like you. We have many children who need sponsors.

To see these children or to fill out an application go to our web site by clicking child. Without your help, many of these will not finish school. For just $25 a month you can see that the child you choose will break the cycle of poverty by getting a good education, better food, clothing, and shelter. For more information about these children or an application form, you can also contact Reggie, who lives in Danang.

Please pray that we can find sponsors for all our children and put your prayers to work by sharing the need with your church, Sunday School Class, civic club, etc.

Share your love and faith

These children urgently need sponsors who will support a child for $25 a month or the whole family for $40 a month, and will pray for them, write and encourage them.

It is like having Christmas two months in a row. In fact we had not even taken down our Christmas tree yet. Below are a few of the children who received money for buying gifts. Others received money in lucky money envelopes. They all will tell you that the Year of the Cat is the best they have ever had.

Tet is the time of the year that people really scrub their houses clean, paint, cook traditional foods, get new clothes and of course, lucky money. Some travel the length of Vietnam to return “home”, others only have to go next door. One day, some stay home and others visit close friends and relatives. The next day the reverse. Another days, they may visit work associates or other friends. Another day they may visit a poor family they know of. Tet is also the time Church people visit.

Below is Cam Nhung. She has no sponsor. There is none of the above for her or others like her.

(Mat 19:21 NKJV)  Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."

About me:  My father is a fisherman and my mother works as his helper. They work hard to earn for our living. We meet difficulty in finance because we all are at the age of school. We look forward to some support so that we can cover our daily needs and our school needs.

LOVE’s note:  A family sponsorship recommended

(Ezekiel 16:49 NKJV)  "Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food, and abundance of idleness; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

(Psa 41:1-3 NKJV)  Blessed is he who considers the poor; The LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. The LORD will preserve him and keep him alive, And he will be blessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies. The LORD will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed.

If you are interested in sponsoring a child, please check the information by clicking on  child or contact Reggie.

God bless you for your prayers and financial support for the children!
