Dental Missions

For those of you who saw the pictures from our last dental mission, you are aware of the great need.

I have included some pictures below to remind you.

First let us praise God that we have a donor from England who will help us buy a portable dental unit that will allow us to drill and fill teeth, and also for a second person how is helping us in a special way. We are hoping to have 2 portable units.

Dr. Vu Duy Hung, a local dentist, has assisted LOVE for several years now. He provides free dental care for the children under our care. The problem is that 90% of these children live too far to go to his office. On our first mission we treated over 200 people from 6 to 86 years old. We were limited to extractions and applying sealant to children. Dr. Hung provided the medicines, etc. at his cost and he and his staff of doctors and nurses donated their services free. 

We estimate that we can treat about 25 people needing fillings per portable unit we have, another 100 to 150 extractions and 80-100 children with sealant.

The cost of 2 vans and meals is about $300 and another $600 ($1000 with 2 portable units)  for medicines, filling materials, etc. Dr. Hung asks nothing for himself, but suggested we provide some funds for his staff and other dentist and assistants in the future. When this happens, we will need about $1,500 per trip.

We were hoping to start doing this once a month, but because of the rainy season and other factors, our hope is to do 6 missions this year. Dr. Hung and I both hope other dentists will want to join us in this good cause. Maybe in 2010 we can do more.

Dr. Hung is talking to Colgate and we think they will donate tooth paste and tooth brushes.

Thanks to Dr. Wing in the U.S., the sealant equipment and materials have been donated.

Now we need donors to help finance these trips.

To start, we need $900 for our first trip, then $1000 for the second.  Dentists in Vietnam so not receive high salaries, so by the 3rd trip we hope to bless them with a donation, depending on additional funds.  We would like to give from $15 to $20 each to the 15 - 20 volunteer workers.

Right now, there is a needy child living in poverty who is waiting for a caring person like you. We have many children who need sponsors.

For just $25 a month you can see that the child you choose will break the cycle of poverty by getting a good education, better food, clothing, and shelter. For more information about these children or an application form, you can also contact Reggie, who lives in Danang.   

Please pray that we can find sponsors for all our children and put your prayers to work by sharing the need with your church, Sunday School Class, civic club, etc.

These children urgently need sponsors who will support a child for $25 a month or the whole family for $40 a month, and will pray for them, write and encourage them.

Please pray extra hard for our mission here in Vietnam. Pray about the much needed dental mission, the portable equipment, and finances for each trip.

Below are only a few of the additional things we are called to do. Even in the city some of the homes do not have bathrooms and many in the rural areas are without a bathroom.
